To correctly introduce grease into a two-race slew bearing two factors must be considered. One, grease is affected considerably by gravity, and two, grease is also governed by the path of least resistance. With these two factors in mind it is necessary to completely fill the lower race with grease prior to introducing grease into the upper race. It is therefore important to identify which manifold lines are top race grease way and which are bottom race grease way. The sequence should be to fill the bottom first then proceed to the top. The amount of grease for the application is 60% of the total fill capacity of the bearing and then 50% lower and 50% upper. This should result in a visible discharge of grease at the upper wiper (seal). Using this method of lubrication will purge old grease along with any particulate matter in the grease such as migrated material from the storage pile.
