Machines with this much time in service usually are in the high percentage of up-time in the material handling areas. Operations and Maintenance personnel can become conditioned to the reliability of both the Stacker and the Reclaimer. At this time of service there are several mechanical components that should be carefully inspected to assure continued performance. These components include the Reclaimer chain drive sprockets, examined for cupping and tooth wear, bend wheels and tension wheels, examined for cupping that reduces the clearance between the inside chain link bar and the wheel surface.
Other components that should have special attention when they reach this age are Reclaimer luffing components. The most important of these is the wire rope condition. It should be examined for fraying and flat spotting which reduces the diameter of the rope. If the rope is dry and exhibits corrosion on the outer layer then it can be assumed that the core is also corroded. The luffing sheaves should be closely examined for wheel side wear along with the wheel bearings. If any of these components show signs of wear beyond the normal expected life they should be replaced as a system. Contact Rockwood Aftermarket Sales and Service for more detailed instructions.
